"The art of death"

Films: Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)

Alias: Various, notably the Hobobot

Type: Mystical

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of a quarter to that of a small car.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: There are many horrible things one can do to an artist. Among them is telling them that their work is flawless when it isn't, telling them they'll never achieve their dreams, or in this case, selling their work after they die because it makes you rich. But Mr. Dease had one Hell of a contingency plan for that. One that gets rather...messy.

History: One day, the reclusive artist Vetril Dease was found dead from mysterious circumstances. Dease was a very avant-garde artist, who had killed his abusive father in a blind rage, and used blood in all of his paintings. While unaware of this, a snobbish art critic and her associates decided to sell his paintings for exorbitant prices. But Dease's works are cursed. Anyone who takes them for greedy purposes will fall prey to any piece of artwork going forward. And there are a few people who have Hell to pay because of it.

Notable Kills: A man is dragged into a painting by a horde of angry monkeys within it, another person gets her arm chopped off after putting her arm into a giant sphere's hole, and another is slowly turned into an abstract painting. Also, see Final Fate.

Final Fate: By the end of it all, almost all of the people who tried to profit off of Dease's gallery are dead. The one who started this mess attempts to get away from art, but the Buzzsaw tattoo on the back of her neck kills her instead. The rest of the art is sold on the streets by and to people who like it for what it is, not for how much green it attracts.

Powers/Abilities: All of the art is rather omnipotent, and can do just about anything.

Weakness: If its owner has no greedy intent, they will not be harmed.

Scariness Factor: 4-To those who just see art as a soulless means of gaining wealth, you will have not known true horror until you've seen what this killer gallery can do. Be it getting beaten to death by painted animals or actually becoming one of the works, your death will not come gently. So, try and appreciate art for what it is instead of what it can get you. Otherwise, it'll just get you.

Trivia: -Director Dan Gilroy apparently looked up more than 50 names of real people in order to find one for the artist of the killer gallery. He found Vetril Dease from the 1800s.

-Dease's character was based on Henry Darger, a similarly disturbed and reclusive artist who was celebrated mostly after his death. The major difference is that one didn't dabble in blood as paint or plant curses on his work.
